Earth Day is on its Way: Disappearing Acts

Newsweek is offering up in their latest Special Edition:  100 Places to Remember Before They Disappear. In it, there are 100 photographic reasons why this planet is an amazing place...and 100 places globally that are in danger of doing a disappearing act due to climate change.  Each photograph comes with a synopsis of each location's beauty and wonder, as well as its current risk due to rising temperatures.  Not only are the visuals amazing, but there's a bounty of geography and map skills built in as well as the potential for some great Earth Day discussion on human impact to the world around us.

To take the virtual visit, click the title above or go to http://www.newsweek.com/id/236064 or go to http://www.100places.com/en/

  1. I've enjoyed reading your blog today! My husband and I are both involved in green pursuits: he runs a non-profit environmental website called CatalogChoice.org where people can go to opt-out of unwanted catalogs and save paper and trees. I work for the Green Schools Initiative -- we help schools (mostly in California) go green. I would like to suggest that you check out our website (www.greenschools.net - go to Profiles page) and consider completing a form to become one of the schools profiled on our website. Thanks for all the interesting info!

  2. Thanks so much for taking the time to share all of this...I most certainly will have to go to both sites and check them out! I know we're always eager to hear what other schools are doing with their green initiatives. That's what it's all about--learning from each other! Sending you my best!

  3. I got a chance to follow up at www.greenschools.net...it is soo comprehensive with it's resources. Thank you so much for sharing!

I'm going to definitely follow up your advice and fill in the profile form with my fellow partner in green, our science teacher who is more "in the know" about where we are with our green initiatives.

    Sending you my best!
